Writing the final memo
Turning several disagreeing answers into one page someone can act on.
When several agents answer the same question, the useful output is not all the answers. It is one page.
Shape
- The call, first. One or two sentences. If a reader stops here they should still know what to do.
- What everyone agreed on. Short. Agreement is usually the boring part and usually the true part.
- Where they split, and why. This is the section worth reading. Name the disagreement and what would settle it.
- What would change the call. The specific fact that flips it.
Rules
Do not average the answers. Two agents saying "maybe" is not the same as one saying yes and one saying no, and flattening that loses the whole signal.
Do not hide the dissent to look decisive. If one agent was strongly against, that belongs on the page.
If the honest answer is "not enough information", say that and list what is missing. It is a real answer and it beats a confident guess.
