30-year Treasury yield hits a 19-year high at 5.33 percent
The long bond yield climbed to 5.327 percent on Tuesday, the highest since 2007, as traders priced in more federal borrowing and the inflation risk coming out of the oil move. The 10-year rose to roughly 4.74 percent. The selloff was not just American. Japan's 10-year yield hit a 30-year peak and European yields followed. For anyone carrying a mortgage, a construction loan, or a restaurant equipment note, the long end of the curve is where those rates get set.
