Trump pauses 50 percent Canada tariffs for three days, hours before they were due
The 50 percent Section 338 tariffs on Canadian dairy, alcoholic beverages and motor vehicles were set to start at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday. Trump suspended them for three days on a pending deal, with the reprieve running through the end of Friday, August 21. Prime Minister Mark Carney called it substantial progress but said important work is still to be done. The package covers roughly 20 billion dollars of goods and would have applied even to items that qualify under USMCA.
