The Flex: Houston Just Lost 525 Yards
The Snap
Jayden Higgins tore his ACL during Tuesday's Texans-Raiders joint practice. He is done for 2026. That deletes 41 catches, 525 yards, six touchdowns, and the receiver who played Houston's third-most WR snaps last season. Higgins had also been listed with Nico Collins and Xavier Hutchinson on the Texans' unofficial starting depth chart. This is not camp soreness. This is a full role evacuation. [1]
Hutchinson gets first crack. He posted a career-best 35-428-3 line last year and was sitting behind Higgins as Houston's WR3. Tank Dell has the bigger ceiling, but he missed all of 2025 after tearing his ACL, MCL, and LCL, and DeMeco Ryans still says Dell is working on his own plan. That is not a Week 1 role guarantee. [2]
The clean read: Collins remains the alpha, Hutchinson becomes draftable, and Dell stays a late swing rather than a projection you can bank. Houston lost a starter. Do not pretend every replacement inherits the whole plate.
The Calendar Says
This is Preseason Week 2, with 20 days until the Patriots and Seahawks open the regular season on September 9. Raiders-Texans starts tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET, the next date that matters because Houston has to show its first Higgins-less receiver order immediately. [7] This is the closest thing preseason gives us to a dress rehearsal. Track who runs with C.J. Stroud, not who catches a fourth-quarter touchdown from a guy headed for waivers.
Around the League
Alvin Kamara
Kamara sprained his MCL Tuesday and is expected to miss at least a month, putting the Saints' September 13 opener in doubt. Travis Etienne already signed for four years, $48 million, with $24 million guaranteed, and was positioned as New Orleans' No. 1. This injury kills the cute committee discount. Etienne owns the front of this backfield now. [3]
Brock Bowers
Bowers played one snap in Las Vegas' opener, then worked fully in joint practice, made explosive downfield plays, and caught a red-zone touchdown without a knee brace or heavy compression tape. The one-snap panic was preseason theater. His movement in competitive work is the signal. [4]
Caleb Douglas
Douglas jumped 20 spots in Fantasy Life's consensus rankings to WR69. The third-round rookie is 6-foot-4, 206 pounds with a 4.39 forty, and Miami's receiver room keeps handing him daylight. WR69 is still a bench lottery ticket, but at least this one owns the athletic profile to cash. [5]
Ja'Kobi Lane
Lane remains the loudest Ravens camp riser and carried that buzz into the first preseason game. No fresh ADP number survived today's verification, so the shelf price stays unmarked. The role signal remains alive, the market claim does not get invented. [6]
Stock Watch
Climbing
Xavier Hutchinson: Higgins is out for the year, and Hutchinson's 35 catches, 428 yards, three touchdowns were all career highs. He does not need to become a star to beat a final-round price. He needs to keep the starting job. [2]
Travis Etienne: Kamara's MCL sprain likely removes him from the opener and perhaps longer. Etienne was already the No. 1 back, now the early-season touch split gets cleaner before drafts hit their busiest weekend. [3]
Caleb Douglas: A 20-place rankings jump is real movement, but WR69 is not helium poisoning yet. Keep buying the profile before the room starts paying for the story. [5]
Slipping
Jayden Higgins: Torn ACL, season over. Cut him in redraft immediately. There is no stash angle here, just a brutal injury and an empty roster spot. [1]
Alvin Kamara: A month-plus absence, age 31, and Etienne already holding the lead job is a bad cocktail. Kamara's 2025 line had already fallen to 471 rushing yards, 3.6 per carry, and one touchdown. The name is pricier than the role. [3]
The Sleeper Shelf
Xavier Hutchinson, WR, Texans, ADP not verified, NEW: Higgins' ACL tear creates immediate starter access after Hutchinson's 35-428-3 season. The shelf is buying the job opening, not pretending he became Nico Collins overnight.
De'Zhaun Stribling, WR, 49ers, ADP not re-verified, RISING: His seven catches for 63 yards remain the cleanest early-game evidence in San Francisco's thinned receiver room. [2]
Ja'Kobi Lane, WR, Ravens, ADP not re-verified, RISING: Camp buzz survived first contact with preseason football. Preseason Week 2 now has to show the same early rotation.
MarShawn Lloyd, RB, Packers, ADP not re-verified, RISING: Five touches on Green Bay's first eight plays without Josh Jacobs still says next man up. Tonight's market does not get a fake refresh.
Tyjae Spears, RB, Titans, ADP not re-verified, HOLD: The near-even early-down, third-down, and short-yardage rotation keeps standalone work in play. No new evidence, no manufactured movement.
The Flex Call
Use the final non-kicker bench pick on Xavier Hutchinson. He is coming off 35 catches, 428 yards, and three touchdowns, and the player ahead of him just left behind a full season of starting snaps. Dell still carries major recovery uncertainty. Hutchinson does not need a target avalanche, he needs to remain on the field in three-receiver sets. [1][2]
Injury Desk
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Higgins' season-ending ACL tear. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Kamara's MCL sprain and likely absence of at least one month. Bowers' full joint-practice participation, red-zone touchdown, and lack of protective equipment were reported by Sports Illustrated. [1][3][4]
