The Flex: Zay Flowers Is Questionable on Sunday Night, and Your Flex Spot Is the Hedge

The Snap

Carolina and Kansas City are on bye, and Philadelphia at Jacksonville is already underway. Ashton Jeanty, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are all questionable for the 1:00 PM games. The game to own is Detroit at Arizona, 4:25 PM ET. Detroit's implied team total at DraftKings is 30.0, tops on the board. That is how many points the betting market expects a team to score, worked out from the spread and the total. Bigger number, more touchdowns to go around. The trap is Sunday night. Baltimore visits Atlanta at 8:20 PM ET without Lamar Jackson, and Zay Flowers is questionable. Put Flowers in your flex. If Flowers sits, you can still swap in a Monday night player from Buffalo at the Rams (8:15 PM ET).

QB

  • Start with confidence: Jared Goff at ARI. Arizona gives quarterbacks 21.0 PPR points a game, 6th most. That is PPR points allowed: fantasy points (one point per catch) a defense has given up to a position each game. High number, soft matchup.
  • Start if you must: Jacoby Brissett vs DET, as a streamer. Detroit allows 28.6, the most.
  • Sit: Tyler Shough vs MIN. Minnesota allows 11.5, the fewest.

RB

  • Start with confidence: Aaron Jones at NO (34.2, the most), Chase Brown at MIA (29.6, 2nd), D'Andre Swift at GB (29.0, 3rd).
  • Start if you must: Derrick Henry at ATL (17.8, 24th). Lamar is out, but Henry gets 22.2 carries a game. Emanuel Wilson vs SF (25.1, 8th). Ashton Jeanty at NE, only if active (20.9, 18th).
  • Sit: Braelon Allen vs CLE (16.7, 28th), even as the starter. Cam Skattebo at WAS (16.6, 29th).

WR

  • Start with confidence: Michael Wilson vs DET (43.5, 2nd), on 11.0 targets a game.
  • Start if you must: Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins at MIA if active. Miami allows just 22.2 (30th). Zay Flowers at ATL (38.4, 5th), from your flex. The risk is Huntley: the pack has no Huntley numbers.
  • Sit: Marvin Harrison Jr. vs DET. Great matchup (43.5), but only 3.2 targets a game. Ladd McConkey vs DEN (28.3, 25th).

TE

  • Start with confidence: Trey McBride vs DET (28.4, the most). Sam LaPorta at ARI (18.6, 3rd).
  • Start if you must: Mike Gesicki at MIA (18.6, also 3rd).
  • Sit: Juwan Johnson vs MIN (7.7, 29th), despite averaging 15.1 fantasy points a game.

Plain English

  • Implied team total: How many points the betting market expects a team to score, worked out from the spread and the total. Bigger number, more touchdowns to go around.
  • PPR points allowed: Fantasy points (one point per catch) a defense has given up to a position each game. High number, soft matchup.
