The Flex: Golden Is Done Asking Permission
The Snap
Matthew Golden just graduated from fun rookie to weekly starter. In Week 2, he ran 32 routes on 34 dropbacks, posted 94% route participation and led Green Bay with 6 targets. Thursday night, with Jayden Reed out, Golden drew 12 targets, caught 5 for 100 yards and scored. That is 18 targets across two games, not some one-play box-score hallucination.[1][5]
The useful part is how Green Bay treated him. Golden stayed outside as the X, Christian Watson held the Z role, and the Packers rotated the slot replacements. PFF's read was blunt: that revolving door should keep targets concentrated on Golden, Watson and Tucker Kraft.[2]
Start Golden until the role changes. The catch rate can bounce around because his work lives downfield. The routes and volume are already starter-grade. The sleeper case is dead because the player won.
The Calendar Says
This is the opening month, the part of the calendar where usage gets a bigger vote than touchdowns. Week 3 kicked off last night, and the Sunday main slate starts in 2 days, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. ET.[7] History says this is where impatient managers sell good roles after two quiet box scores. Do not help them learn patience.
Around the League
Atlanta's Two-Man Wrecking Crew
Bijan Robinson handled 29 carries for 194 yards and 2 touchdowns, then added 2 catches for 19 yards. Drake London turned 10 targets into 9 catches for 194 yards. Atlanta ran 66 plays, and those two owned 41 combined carries plus targets. This offense is concentrated exactly where fantasy managers want it.[1]
Green Bay Backfield
The Packers called only 9 runs. MarShawn Lloyd and Kaleb Johnson each received 4 carries, combining for 17 yards, while Chris Brooks remained the passing-down piece. PFF called the Lloyd-Johnson split near-even and noted Brooks still led the group in snaps. Three backs, bad blocking, no volume. That is not a committee, it is a traffic jam.[1][2]
Adonai Mitchell
Mitchell played 61 of 74 snaps, ran 41 routes on 50 dropbacks and earned a 24% target share in Week 2. The result was 6 catches for 63 yards on 12 targets. ESPN still had him only 33.0% rostered Friday morning. The Jets' WR2 role is available in real leagues, which is frankly rude.[4][5]
Tyjae Spears
Spears produced 41 rushing yards on 7 carries and caught 2 passes for 29 yards in Week 2. ESPN lists him at 48.2% rostered, but both he and Tony Pollard carried ankle injuries into Friday. Add the role, then respect the injury report.[4]
Stock Watch
Climbing
Matthew Golden: The 94% Week 2 route rate became 12 targets, 100 yards and a touchdown Thursday. That is role confirmation with a receipt.[1][5]
Adonai Mitchell: An 82% snap share, 41 routes and 12 targets say he has moved past stash status. The box score was merely decent. The workload was loud.[5]
Rachaad White: Washington gave him a 52% snap share, 13 touches and all 6 of his targets in Week 2. The passing-down lane survived the committee.[6]
Slipping
Kyle Pitts: He caught 1 pass for 5 yards on 2 targets Thursday. PFF has him at only 2 catches through three games, after his route participation fell to 56.9% over the first two weeks. Bench him until the new staff remembers he exists.[1][2]
MarShawn Lloyd and Kaleb Johnson: Four carries each in a game where Green Bay attempted 53 passes. Neither back separated, and Brooks still owns passing downs. Nobody gets points for winning one-third of nothing.[1][2]
Marvin Harrison Jr.: Week 2 brought a 50% snap share, 1 target and zero catches. Draft capital cannot start in your flex. The route and target recovery must come first.[5]
The Sleeper Shelf
Matthew Golden, WR, Packers. Current ADP: not re-verified. GRADUATED. The shelf got the role right, and 12 targets for 100 yards closed the file.[1]
Adonai Mitchell, WR, Jets. Current ADP: not re-verified. NEW. The 82% snap share, 41 routes and 24% target share are a weekly WR3 foundation.[5]
Tyjae Spears, RB, Titans. Current ADP: not re-verified. HOLD. Nine Week 2 touches produced 70 yards, but the ankle issue blocks the victory lap.[4]
Demond Claiborne, RB, Vikings. Current ADP: not re-verified. HOLD. The contingency thesis is alive, but there is no fresh workload evidence worth dressing up.
Chig Okonkwo, TE, Commanders. Current ADP: not re-verified. HOLD. The preseason role case remains open, and the hamstring issue keeps him parked.
The Flex Call
Add Adonai Mitchell and start him as a WR3 in Week 3. He is only 33.0% rostered at ESPN after running 41 routes and drawing 12 targets last week. That is a role you start against Detroit, not a souvenir you leave on the bench.[4][5]
Injury Desk
CBS Sports reported Thursday that Puka Nacua again did not practice, while Zay Flowers was also absent. Nacua's absence would push Davante Adams and Terrance Ferguson forward after they combined for a 63% target share in Week 2.[3]
CBS also reported Jalen Coker missed Thursday with an ankle injury after being limited Wednesday. Saquon Barkley returned to practice following his Week 2 stinger, a strong step toward playing Monday.[3]
